The Habit of A Daily Quiet Time

The Apostles' Creed


I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ,
His only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of
the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy *catholic Church,
the communion of the saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

*Catholic means 'universal' and 'according to true doctrine.' It does not refer to the Roman Catholic Church.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and
the power and the glory forever. Amen.

A quiet time is a daily time I set aside to be alone with God to get to know Him through the Bible and prayer.

The Importance of A Daily Quiet Time

Your time alone with God should be the top priority in your schedule for five reasons :

1. We were created to have fellowship with God.

Gen. 1:27
So God created man in His own image...

Rev. 3:20
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."

2. Jesus died to make the relationship with God possible.

When Adam sinned, that relationship was broken. God send His Son in order to restore that relationship again.

1 Cor. 1:9 (TLB)
God... has invited you into this wonderful friendship with his Son, Christ our Lord.

3. Personal time alone with God was Jesus' source of strength.

Luke 5:16
So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

4. Every person who has been effective in service for God developed this habit.

5. You cannot be healthy, growing Christian without spending time with God.

Matt. 4:4
But He answered and said, "... Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."

Job 23:12
... I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

Ps. 119:9
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
